Eat, Drink & Sketch in beautiful surroundings – what more is there?!

Of the many beautiful wine domaines we have in this area, Château Canet is one of them. There are no castles with turrets, but what you will find is a living and loved winery full of history, surrounded by hectares of olive trees and vineyards, and a charming family farming the land and sharing their home.

They also have 2 Weimaraners called Miles & Nelson, but that’s by the by.

One of the very delightful things about this location, just outside a village called Rustiques, is that it’s close enough to Carcassonne to be easily accessible, but far enough away to feel completely and utterly tranquil.

Sketching days at Canet are a real treat. We start with coffee and homemade biscuits, going over the first and very important aspects of getting those first sketch lines on the page and the colours we’re going to use.

Sketches happen, as if by magic, and then it’s almost time for lunch.

Prior to eating, very importantly, is an apéritif. Typically in France this will be a glass of wine and some olives. In the case of Château Canet it’s a tour of the winery, learning more about the domaine, tasting several wines, and olives, and olive oil. Delicious!

Then, it’s lunch. Freshly prepared with seasonal produce. Ample quantities of delicious food, and there’s wine served with it – of course.

Fuelled for the afternoon we can continue with the serious business of making art. Perhaps a little more creatively, and colourfully. We’re spoilt for choice on subjects – nature, architecture, animals, landscapes….

Whatever the artistic result (which will be great, by the way!) – it really is a fabulous experience, and it’s all in your sketchbook, to bring back all the memories of a very special day 😊

Picnic & wine-tasting sketch workshops take place at Canet in Spring and Autumn – email me if you’d like to arrange a date for your group, or book for 17 May 2023 here!
